At 930 AM Sarah left New York for Sleepy Hollow cycling at 12 miles per hour. ?

At 10 AM Gillian left Sleepy Hollow for New York, cycling at 16 miles per hour. The distance between NY and Sleepy Hollow is 20 miles. Find the time when they meet.

See, At 10 AM, when Gillian left, Sarah had covered 6 miles in 30 minutes.
So the rest 14 miles, they will travel toward each other, with a combined speed of 12 mph of sarah and 16 mph 0f Gilian = 28 mph.

Since they have to cover 14 miles now,
they will travel for 60 x 14/28 minutes = 30 minutes
and meet each other at 10:30

chahat thakkar | Nov 01, 2008

at 10:30 Sarah had traveled 12 miles and Gillian had traveled 8 miles and that is the point at which they meet.12+8=20

Is it normal to burn this much oil?

I’m looking into privately sold used cars and one that I saw listed said something that sounded a little off. It’s a 95 Toyota 4Runner. The guy selling it said that it burns through about 1/2 quart of oil every tank of gas (~350 miles). Is this a normal amount?

NO that is way to much oil to burn/leak,you might use about 500/600ml of oil every 5000km that would be acceptable.
Staffies are great | Oct 30, 2009

DONT" BUY IT!!!!!!

The engine is shot.

That amount of oil is insane for one tank of gas.

See the above!!

DONT" BUY IT
ric m | Oct 30, 2009

Nope. Shouldn’t burn any oil, but a half quart every 3000 miles is ok. If it’s half quart every tank, I’d say no, unless you’re getting a magnificent low price on it.
Matt McClure | Oct 30, 2009

I wouldn’t buy it ! My cars have always burned about 1/2 a quart of oil, between oil changes, usually 3,500 to 5,000 miles
A | Oct 30, 2009

Your right, that is a weird way of putting it, vehicles take more than 1/2 a quart of oil, about three quarts or a gallon would be more like it and it should be changed every 2-3 thousand miles. Some cars and trucks Have the amount of liters of oil they take on the back, for example, a big Dodge cummins, may be like 5.9 liters. Hope this helps.
Justin | Oct 30, 2009

No that is a large amount of oil, usually what causes oil to burn off the worn piston rings you can tell if it is or not by opening the cap you put oil in and put your hand over(not in it there are moving parts in there) if you can feel ‘puffs’ of air its definetly worn rings, to replace the rings you have to rebuild the engine basically, having it repaired it would be in a shop about a week(assuming they have parts if not longer) and it would cost a lot of money most likely more than that car is worth.
lukerplant@sbcglobal.net | Oct 30, 2009

that’s way too much oil loss. Its might Even have an oil leak.if you have smog checks were your at then it probably wont pass.
Mark | Oct 30, 2009

that’s definitely NOT a normal amount of oil consumption. that motor has a few problems, 1- bad valve seals which is allowing the oil to burn past the valves into the cylinders, 2- blow-by which is letting the oil come up and sit in the air filter cover, and 3- bad piston rings which is allowing the oil to burn IN the cylinder bores. listen to these other ppl and stay away from this vehicle unless you want to spend a few thousand bucks fixing it.
Stuart | Oct 30, 2009

For a vehicle 14 years old yes if the piston rings are worn. Being that it’s a forerunner it probably got driven hard alot. It surely has very high miles accounting for the oil consumption. Not all vehicles this age use that much oil unless engine is on its last leg. Beware toyota engine is an expensive rebuild.
Jesse | Oct 30, 2009

If you buy that car, I’ve got a bag of donut seeds to sell you.
Officer Farva | Oct 30, 2009

about a quart every 3000 miles is normal.

Between KEVIN DURANT and BRANDON ROY which one is better player and why?

These two kevin durant and brandon roy are the young leaders of their team so i just wanna know that which one is better and good leader.

Brandoy Roy (defense, offense) great all around player, Durant can’t defend..

Every Day I'm Hustlin | Aug 04, 2009

Kevin Durant.
Chris | Aug 04, 2009

Kevin Durant is a better shooter, and can play more postions than Roy but Roy is more of a mature player in my opinion and more of a leader. And Brandon Roy did make the All-Star team, but a player that is probably gonna win an MVP award, I’d go with Kevin Durant.

But the better player now is Brandon Roy.
RayAllen20BC | Aug 04, 2009

well, obviously brandon roy becasue ron artest said so :)

but no on the real, i think brandon roy is better overall becasue he led his team to the playoffs, shoots a better percentage and is way more consistent. He is a star even though he has other good players on his team.

kevin durant may be a better individual player becasue he averages more points and can score on command, but that is just becasue he has nobody else to shoulder the weight of the team. the only way OKC is going to be good is if jeff green and russel westbrook and james harden step up and boss it up.
Don Vito | Aug 04, 2009

Kevin Durant.

I like Brandon Roy as much as the next guy, but there is no way for someone to realistically say that he’s better than Durant.
adamdubbs | Aug 04, 2009

i think durant is the over all better player. but roy, is a better play maker. both are future all stars for several years to come. i do think durant has the better stats, partially due to position, rebs, blk, etc. both haven’t accomplished much yet aside from, the roy award. i think roy gets more talked about though, because he plays in a basketball market. durant, doesn’t play in marquee games that much, because his team isn’t very good yet.

kevin durant, not just because of his stats..proof? during the us "try-outs" this season, he just made believers out of everyone who saw him play..
basketball guy | Aug 05, 2009

wow really comparing KD to the Amazing Brandon Roy, some people are stupid enough to believe that Kevin Durant is better then Brandon Roy i mean look at B-roys stats. team record how he helped the blazers go from lottery land to Finals land, Kevin Durant hasnt helped his team at all even though they are getting some really good players. If you follow basketball you would know for sure that Brandon Roy is better i am the biggest Thunder fan but in my opinion and every other true ballers opinion B-Roy is better. If you made a team who would you put on there B-Roy or KD. Id take B-Roy

How long does it take to receive money after you make an amend to your taxes?

I am waiting to close on my first home; however, it is taking quite some time as the bank is sloooow. I was going to wait to file my taxes for 2008 so that I could apply my first time home buyer credit.

Now that it is taking so long, I want to go ahead and file my taxes now. I understand I can still file an amend once I finally close - but would I receive the home buyer tax credit in a reasonable time? If not, I may just wait and file an extension if necessary so I can get the $8000 sooner

You are better off waiting as long as you can because amended returns are more closely scrutinized, in my opinion. But if you need your return you can amend later, as long as everything is absolutely correct.

Lost as Atlantis | Mar 11, 2009

You cant check the status online and it will tell you when.
TX Realtor | Mar 11, 2009

An amendment takes 6-8 weeks to get your refund.
Judy | Mar 11, 2009

normally it takes 8 weeks to get more refund back after you amend your taxes.

Regarding the home buyer credit, if you bought a house last year, you only get 7500 credit and you have to pay it back.

If you bought a house this year (2009), you will qualify for the 8000 credit when you file your taxes next year for year 2009. This credit you do not have to pay back. Nice huh.
Codys mom | Mar 11, 2009

It takes about 8 weeks. After that you can call IRS to enquire about the status of your refund.

Jss | Mar 11, 2009

It can take up to 12 weeks to get your refund from an amendment, especially this time of year..

File a separate Form 1040X for each year you are amending. If you are changing your federal return, you may also have to change your state return. Allow 8 to 12 weeks to process Form 1040X.

who thinks the no child left behind act suks?

i mean its causing kids and teachers ti work hard, bu learn less. do u really believe tests, that are poorly worded with answers confusing for people who come from other countries (like me) are really gunna help kids, or are good teachers, funner classes, and more hands on and less work on projects gunna help. not mindlessly reciting the teachers notes on a test………..

I agree basically with everything that has been said here. Focusing more on passing tests then assuring comprehnsion is a huge mistake. People will do what they need to do to pass the tests and are likely to forget it once they don’t need it anymore. What is being taught is test taking, not actual meaningful skills.

Somebody mentioned the funding issues, taking money away from schools that don’t meet their AYPs, which is ridiculous. Many of these schools are inner city schools that don’t have money for updated facilities and materials. The last thing they need is less money.

As far as outright hating it, I don’t. I like what it is trying to do, I just think that the people who made this bit of legislation are VERY out of touch with what is needed for schools now adays and need to be better educated about it. It’s heart is in the right place. Making sure all of our kids are learning. But the manner in which they are implementing this is what sucks, not the idea itself. It will be a process, but I think things can be changed so that the kids, schools, and teachers get what they need out of it eventually.

Kevin | Jun 16, 2008

It’s obviously not working for you.

You have poor grammar, poor spelling, and wrote a run-on sentence. Your school should be docked funding.
RdRedWine | Jun 16, 2008

kinda dumb, the government gives more money to schools who are doing good rather than to schools who need it. All this does is make people feel worse.
Chris B | Jun 16, 2008

The tests are confusing to teachers too. I agree that it is not teaching kids more. It’s teaching them how to take tests. They are not learning the material, they are learning how to take the tests and fake it. My main job as a Teacher’s Aide is to monitor tests and then grade them. Students have as many chances as they need to pass the test with a 70% or better. These students don’t have a clue about the material in the assignment. They study worksheets to learn how to pass the tests. They don’t learn anything. They are just repeating what they are told to.
Frosty | Jun 16, 2008

Yes, becuase there can be many many many exceptions to this.
What about special ed children? No child left behind MAKES them have to pass the grade that they are in. I mean no offense to special ed children when I say this but for some special ed children it’s impossible to get them to pass.

What about ESOL kids? (Children who don’t speak English)
How are they supposed to take these tests if they can’t read them? Sure, there may be a few accomidations for them, but it’s still very difficult.

Teaching is the most important profession out there. Without it, NONE of us would be where we are right now. But somehow, they get paid very little. Between 50,000 to 20,000 is the average yearly salary of teachers in the US. Where I live, it’s about 35,000
Emz | Jun 16, 2008

Most teachers do because it’s not possible to accomplish. (and "gunna" and "funner" aren’t words) - you must’ve been left behind at some point

2 yrs ago in algebra i did everything by calculator and im not exagerrating. they wanted us to use calculators so we’d score even higher. when i got to geometry we weren’t allowed to use a calculator, so i was screw. basically i didn’t know how to do algebra with out a $100 calculator.

i hate the kids have to work so hard and not learn the things they really need to learn.
meraibrat | Jun 16, 2008

NCLB is opening the door for communism.
Think about it.
Like others have said here - the kids are not learning waht they need to know in life, they are learning how to take a test. Learning how to do what someone else is telling them to do.

Teachers teach ONLY waht is on these state tests so the school can GET MORE MONEY. This is the ONLY thing that it’s all about.

To hell with the kids, just as long as they get that money.

Teachers now spoon feed information into the students like robots to MEMORIZE and NOT LEARN, so they can get good scores on the tests so the schools can GET MORE MONEY!!

I wish parents KNEW what is happening to their children, what THEY are paying these educational people to DO to THEIR OWN CHILDREN.

All this stuff is not helping the kids to learn, there are record numbers of kids graduating without knowing how to read, write, spell, etc even though this is what this NCLB law is suppose to HELP!!

Teachers and others in schools say it’s the own kids fault for not learning. THey are lazy, don’t care, don’t try etc.

THey say these things to get the focus off of the REAL problem, which is the SCHOOL is doing this to the children!

These kids will grow up mindless. They will not be able to do anything for themselves, not know how to think for themselves, and will have to have everyone else tell them what to do.

HITLER ANYONE !?!?!?

So, since NCLB is mandated by federal government, somebody up there in the big house is sneaking communism in here.

u2 on youtube concert at rose bowl?

Is there any way to record the concert on youtube and place it on dvd somehow??? i would love o record this on dvd if it is what youtube sayss it is!

btw i am going to see them in 1 week n Vancouver …it will be awesome

anyone who has seen them on this 360 tour tell me how the concert was please

I use a third-party software called WM Recorder. You just open the program and then open the YouTube file you want to capture. Of course, the software is meant to be used with non-copyrighted material. Here’s the link: http://www.wmrecorder.com/wm_recorder.ph p

On a related note, YouTube is planning on having the concert available for viewing after the concert date as well.

The problem with burning a DVD is that the stream will probably be pretty low quality. U2 is filming this show so it will be available as a DVD for purchase eventually.

I have GA tickets so I’ll be in line at 6:00 AM! Maybe I’ll make it on the video and stream(?)! I saw them on the floor in North Carolina and it was a rush. The crowd will be off the ground in Pasadena!
Tim | Oct 22, 2009

I can’t really help you with the techie stuff, but I saw the tour so I can help you with that :)
It was uh-MAY-zing! I went to 4 shows…did GA in Foxboro, NJ, and DC. I waited in line from about 6 AM, and it was way more than worth it. The atmoshere on the floor is amazing. They sounded incredible, the stage setup is great because they can sort of be a bunch of places at once! I don’t even know what to say other than it was mind blowing. You’ll have a blast :) Valentina C | Oct 22, 2009

how does google maps get the approximate location form the mobile network?

Google maps mobile can fetch you your approximate location in a certain range. What API does it use to do this? It has to be something that the mobile exposes. How to get hold of the API?

Actually there will a big different when browser the on PC. Mobile phone has application that suitable. maps mobile needs update to connect the desire connection you really want.

Jude Michael | May 07, 2009

I’m not sure of the API specs, but your GPS coords indicate your location, so you only need that location plus the surrounding areas.

What, if any, fatwas have been authored about the practice of dianetics and scientology?

Fatwa are rulings about the practice of Islam, such as whether certain actitivities are to be prohibited, encouraged, necessary, permitted, or conditionally allowed.

Dianetics is a the course of sacred spiritual counselling and rehabilitation practices administered in the Scientology faith.

You should check out Indonesia where Scientologist Volunteer Ministers went over to help out after the tsunami that devastated Aceh. The Muslim clerics were lining up at their tents to learn how to do Scientology Assists so they use them to help the people who had been injured. I’m sure they must have issued something on the subject over there.

Steve_S | Jun 21, 2009

I don’t think many Islamic leader take it serious enough to issue a fatwa.
Most people believe is science fiction.
rp_joe | Jun 20, 2009

The Church of Scientology is known for its practice of fair game against its enemies. It officially "cancelled" that particular policy letter but it practices fair game on an ongoing basis anyway.

Here are some of the "ops" the church has perpetrated:

Operation Freakout- Paulette Cooper

The targetting of Bob Minton (who later caved and now does whatever CofS wants him to do)

The "not one thin dime for Wollersheim" - fight against Larry Wollersheim who obtained a judgment against the church and the church didn’t want to pay it.

Recently, a young woman was assaulted while picketing the DC CofS center.

Various ops and so forth against critical ex member, Tory Bezazian

There are others. It won’t stop as long as the cult’s still around. The current head (David Miscavige) is even more paranoid than Hubbard was. Of course, it ends up becoming a self fulfilling prophecy scenario wherein the cult makes its own enemies.

*edit to add additional note***

Wow, from looking at the thumbs down, it looks like some people don’t approve of my mentioning things that have really happened. Well, I didn’t make them up. You can google any and all of these things. I don’t know what else (besides a fatwa) one can compare a campaign to that targets someone on an ongoing basis. Here’s a link to a story by two former top ranking Church of Scientology members describing beatings by management:

Nothing like that in Dianetics or the Scientology religion. The knowledge and methods of application in the basic books, materials and recorded public lectures, is all made available to anyone, regardless of race , creed or religion. (Check you local library)

The basic premise in the Scientology religion is that Man is basically good . He does not need more rules, prohibitions or permission to live his life positively he already has that basic intent.
When given the full understanding and knowledge about life and the negative traps he has succumbed to and how to reverse them, he will naturally apply this knowledge to free himself , his family , the groups he is belongs to and all of Mankind , which he is a part of.
